Be a CEO: frequently asked questions

The short version. Be a CEO is a business strategy game by Mantar Tech for Windows. It is in closed alpha, with no Steam page, price or release date yet.

The game

What is Be a CEO?

Be a CEO is a business strategy game by Mantar Tech in which you run a trading house through three ages: a medieval kingdom (Valmora), the railway mania of 1846 (Ferrovia) and the present day (Meridyen). You buy and haul goods, build works, borrow, hire, face rival houses and decide who you become.

How many worlds are there?

Three, each with its own goods, towns, rival houses, advisers and event cards: Valmora (year 412 of the Lantern Calendar), Ferrovia (1846) and Meridyen (the present day). Each has 8 towns, 12 routes and 10 goods.

How does it compare with classic trading games such as Patrician or Port Royale?

It shares the buy-low, haul and sell-high loop of classic trading simulations, but it is a company game: you also borrow from banks, hire and delegate, answer to a board, and deal with rivals, regulators and the press. Three different ages with their own economies replace a single historical setting.

Can I choose my own house crest?

Yes. At the start of a new game you design your house’s arms: a split shield, two colours and a painted emblem. You can try the designer on the Be a CEO page.

How it plays

How do the dice work in the dilemma cards?

Each dilemma has one bold option. The game rolls a d20, adds your adviser’s skill and compares the total with the option’s difficulty. If it meets it, the bold option succeeds; otherwise it fails. The safer options have certain outcomes. You can try this on the dilemmas pages.
