**The dilemma.** A frightened clerk has brought you the Great Western's true accident book. Their returns to Parliament hide eleven deaths. Your counsel say gentlemen do not inform on gentlemen, and that it will poison the trade for years.

## Options and what happens

- **Give the book to the Railway Inspectorate.** (bold: d20 + adviser skill against 13)
  - Succeeds: The Inspectorate prosecutes. Lines across the realm suddenly discover their own missing pages.
  - Fails: The book is called a forgery and the clerk recants. You are sued for libel.
- **Warn the Great Western privately.** (certain): Their chairman thanks you, coldly, and promises reforms nobody will check.
- **Send the clerk away.** (certain): The clerk goes, and so does the book. You hear later that he emigrated.
