# The bridge everyone has given up on

**The dilemma.** Engineers have rated the old Varn Bridge on the Coldridge road 'unsafe for heavy loads'. Every haulier now detours two days. Your own engineer swears it can carry half-loaded trucks. Nobody believes her except, perhaps, you.

## Options and what happens

- **Run half-loaded trucks across the bridge.** (bold: d20 + adviser skill against 14)
  - Succeeds: The bridge holds, and your trucks arrive two days before anyone else's.
  - Fails: A span groans, an inspector sees it and your trucks are impounded mid-crossing.
- **Take the detour like everyone else (₥250).** (certain): Two extra days of diesel. Safe and dull.
- **Let the drivers choose.** (certain): Some cross, some detour, and nobody knows where anything is.
